Colorado's elite forward earned at least a point in the 35 games at Ball Arena since the beginning of the season until Thursday night.
While there was hope the NHL would review and award Nathan MacKinnon an assist on Devon Toews' goal against the New York Rangers Thursday night, it remained unassisted — which ended the elite center's home point scoring streak at 35 games.
Toews ripped a shot down the lane and after Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin made the initial save, he tried to grab the puck the same time Ryan Lindgren and Mikko Rantanen were fighting for it — and it got knocked past the netminder over the goal line.
MacKinnon passed the puck to Toews which should have earned him an assist but due to the traffic in front of the net, the goal was credited solely to the defenseman.
When asked about his streak ending after practice on Friday, MacKinnon said he wanted to win the game and was not focused on his streak.
“Super impressive. I mean, incredible player ... Great for him and I’m sure he’s more concerned about us winning and making the playoffs," goaltender Alexandar Georgiev said. "He was not cheating at any point in the game. He was playing smart hockey, whether it meant playing defense, he did that, so big respect.”
MacKinnon was also riding a 19-game overall streak which came to a close but he became only the only player in NHL history to record two 19-game scoring streaks in the same season.
The 28-year-old Halifax, Nova Scotia native will remain behind Wayne Gretzky's home point scoring streak record from the start of the season at 40 games until he bests his own 35-game streak or another player does.
