Nathan MacKinnon will not be the only player representing the Colorado Avalanche in Toronto on Feb. 3.
The fans have decided one member of the Colorado Avalanche was not enough for the 2024 All-Star Game — Cale Makar and Alexandar Georgiev were voted on to the team, the NHL announced Saturday.
The defenseman and goaltender were voted as two of the 12 remaining spots in the fan vote. They will join Nathan MacKinnon for the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend on Feb. 1-3 in Toronto.
With their additions, this is the third consecutive season the Avalanche have had three players selected to participate in All-Star Weekend. Last season, MacKinnon, Makar and Mikko Rantanen represented the team in Florida.
The 25-year-old Calgary native is just the second defenseman in franchise history to be named to the NHL All-Star Game in three consecutive seasons.
Makar is second among defensemen in scoring with 48 points in 37 games played. He earned his 250th career point and 200th assist this season — which made him the fastest defenseman in NHL history to reach both milestones. He set a new record with 261 points in 250 games as the most-ever by a defenseman in NHL history.
It's Georgiev's first time being selected to the All-Star Game. He is the second Avalanche netminder to get the honor — Patrick Roy was chosen five times.
The 27-year-old Bulgaria native currently sits in the No. 1 spot for wins among goaltenders with 23 and most recently posted his second shutout this season against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights.
