The Colorado Avalanche are being listed as a possible landing spot for a Montreal Canadiens center.
The Colorado Avalanche are among the top teams in the NHL and will be buyers at the trade deadline. One specific position that they will aim to improve is at center.
Calgary Flames center Elias Lindholm has been connected to them over the last several weeks, but now, it appears that they have another potential target – Montreal Canadiens center Sean Monahan.
On a recent installment of NHL Insider Trading, Darren Dreger listed the Avalanche as a potential trade destination for Monahan. This is exactly what Dreger said on the matter:
"There are teams that are looking for centermen. Depth in that position, or a top two, top three centermen. No different this year. I’m looking at Colorado. I’m looking at Boston. Perhaps the Edmonton Oilers. Maybe the Washington Capitals if they stay in the mix. 29-year-old Sean Monahan of the Montreal Canadiens is healthy, and he is having a decent year.”
Monahan is a player whom the Avalanche looked at last season before his season-ending injury, so it would not be shocking if they targeted him again. He would give them another option for the 2C role, which is needed given Ryan Johansen's struggles in 2023-24.
In 41 games this season for the Habs, Monahan has 11 goals and 24 points. Overall, it has been a good season for him, but he would have the potential to produce more on a much better Avs team. Because of this, he certainly should be a player they look at from here.
