In The Athletic's most recent mock draft, which dropped on June 11, 2025, their team of writers went through the full first round and made picks based on who they believe each club will take.

With the Columbus Blue Jackets holding two first-round picks — numbers 14 and 20 — let’s take a look at who The Athletic sees them targeting.

At 14th overall, they have the Blue Jackets selecting Carter Bear, a defenseman from the Everett Silvertips of the WHL.

At 20, they have Columbus taking goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen from the Prince George Cougars, also of the WHL.

Ravensbergen is a name that’s already been covered on our Blue Jackets site here at The Hockey News, with Jason Newland breaking down why he could be a great fit for Columbus. Adding him would help shore up the long-term outlook in goal, which is something the organization definitely needs to address.

The question is more about that 14th pick. If the Blue Jackets go with Ravensbergen at 20, should they be looking for a forward or a defenseman at 14?
