Insider believes the Blue Jackets will be buyers at the deadline

According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading, Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell plans to be a buyer at the March 7 Trade Deadline.

LeBrun had this to say on the latest episode of Insider Trading:

“Speaking with GM Don Waddell… he’s decided to try and be a moderate buyer,” LeBrun said. “He’s not going to get into the big names. The long-term vision of the team still matters most, but… he feels he owes it to his group to go out and try and add a top-nine forward or a rental player.”

Waddell feels that he owes it to the Blue Jackets to reward them and add something to this team.

As LeBrun reports, it seems Columbus is looking for a forward. I mentioned earlier this week that there were a few options the Blue Jackets could be interested in, including Ryan Strome (ANA) and Scott Laughton (PHI) as strong options.

However, if Waddell wants to go the rental route for a top-nine forward, there are a few more options:

The Blue Jackets have been a great surprise this season and an absolute joy to watch. With all the struggles the organization has gone through, it’s awesome to see the GM acknowledge that this team has a chance to make the playoffs.
