Zach Werenski did everything he could, but the U.S. couldn't overcome a player shortage on Thursday against Sweden.

The United States were missing a lot of their great players on Monday night and lost Brady Tkachuk in the first period to injury.

Zach Werenski was arguably the best player on the ice for the U.S. on Monday and did everything but score a goal.

The Blue Jackets defenseman helped get the United States on the board just 35 seconds into the first period with his 5th assist of the tournament. Werenski drove the net and somehow got a shot off on goalie Samuel Ersson while falling down. Errson gave up a juicy rebound that Chris Kreider buried to give the Americans the lead.

Werenski continues to shine in front of a huge international audience. Werenski's name must've been said by Kenny Albert and Eddie Olczyk at least 8 times in the first five or six minutes.

Take a look at Zach Werenski's final stats:

Werenski was also named the third star of the game.

Judging by social media posts, the world is finally taking notice of Zach Werenski.
