On March 9, 2024, DeBoer earned the 600th win of his NHL coaching career as the Dallas Stars defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4–1. It was another notable moment during a successful stretch for Dallas under DeBoer, who had taken over behind the bench less than two years earlier.

The Stars originally hired DeBoer on June 21, 2022, just over a month after he was dismissed by the Vegas Golden Knights. He replaced former head coach Rick Bowness and quickly helped Dallas stay among the top contenders in the West.

During his three seasons with Dallas, DeBoer posted an impressive 149-68-29 regular-season record in 246 games, one of the best stretches in franchise history. He guided the Stars to the Western Conference Final in all three seasons but was unable to break through to the Stanley Cup Final, compiling a 29-27 playoff record with the club.

Despite that success, the partnership eventually came to an abrupt end. The Stars fired DeBoer following their third consecutive conference finals loss. GM Jim Nill later revealed that DeBoer’s public comments about goaltender Jake Oettinger after a Game 5 loss to the Edmonton Oilers played a role in the decision, alongside the organization’s desire for “a new voice” in the locker room.

Looking back now, what’s your final verdict on Pete DeBoer’s time in Dallas?
