A cap-dump deal between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Dallas Stars is forming.

According to the NHL's media site, Stars' defenseman Matt Dumba is now listed on Pittsburgh's roster, while Penguins' young blueliner Vladislav Kolyachonok is listed on Dallas's roster.

Dumba, 30, is a right-side defenseman in the final year of a contract that pays him $3.75 million annually. He registered a goal and 10 points, along with a minus-5 rating, in 63 games last season.

With Dallas currently more than $1.79 million over the salary cap, they were looking to offload a contract. Kolyachonok, 24, is under contract through the end of the 2025-26 season with a cap hit of $775,000. He was traded mid-season from Utah to Pittsburgh in 2024-25 and appeared in just 12 games for the Penguins, recording two assists.
