According to Elliotte Friedman on his 32 Thoughts podcast, the Dallas Stars are closely watching the situation surrounding Jason Robertson as the NHL trade deadline approaches.

Friedman noted that until the Stars make a decision on Robertson’s future, the team will not have much room to take on contract term in any potential trade additions. This could limit Dallas’s ability to add players with multi‑year deals unless Robertson’s situation is resolved first.

Robertson, one of the Stars’ top offensive producers, has been a major contributor this season with 40 goals and 42 assists for 82 points in 59 games, showcasing his elite scoring ability and all‑around play. His strong performance has made him one of the most valuable players in the league and a central figure in Dallas’s success.

Friedman’s comments suggest that Dallas is being cautious in how it approaches the deadline, balancing the desire to improve the roster with the need to address Robertson’s contract situation. Teams that trade for impact players often need flexibility to absorb salary and term, and right now that flexibility may be limited for the Stars until they make a call on Robertson.

For Stars fans this raises interesting questions about how aggressive the club might be in acquiring help for a playoff push. If Dallas ultimately does not move Robertson, the team may have more leeway to pursue additions, but if he is dealt or extended, it could shift the franchise’s plans.

Stars fans, with the trade deadline approaching, how do you feel about the team’s strategy in watching Robertson’s situation closely before making major moves? Do you want Dallas to stand pat until then, or hope they find creative ways to improve the roster regardless?
