On this day in 2024, Wyatt Johnston delivered a career night for the Dallas Stars, recording his first NHL hat trick in a dramatic 7-6 comeback win over the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center at San Jose.

Dallas trailed 6-3 early in the third period, but the Stars stormed back with three goals in the final minutes of regulation. Johnston scored twice during the rally, including the game-tying goal at 15:42 of the third period to complete his hat trick and force overtime. Roope Hintz then sealed the comeback with the overtime winner. 

Johnston finished the night with 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points, the first five-point game of his NHL career. His goals came in the second period and twice in the third during Dallas’ late push, helping erase the three-goal deficit. 

It was a wild offensive night across the board. Logan Stankoven added two goals and two assists, while Jamie Benn contributed one goal and three assists as the Stars completed one of their most memorable comebacks of the season. 

The Stars finished with a 41–20 shot advantage and went 2-for-3 on the power play, showing resilience after allowing six goals earlier in the game.
