DALLAS - The Stars remain perfect in the preseason with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory in overtime over the Blues on Saturday night at Caleb Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO.
Head coach Pete DeBoer’s contingent boasts an impressive 3-0 record in exhibition play.
Dallas trailed 3-1 entering the third period, before goals by Kyle McDonald and Matthew Seminoff forced the extra frame. Jason Robertson then proceeded to score the game-winner at the 1:01 mark of overtime on a breakaway.
“It was a tough game to come on the road, get off the plane and play. I thought we were a little slow out of the gate, but we built our game as the game went on and we really found our game in the third period,” said DeBoer. “I thought we put a lot of pressure on them and played the way we want to play all the time.”
Interestingly enough, Dallas had been working on their 3-on-3 strategy in training camp to address some struggles in that department from last season.
And this was a good opportunity to implement those lessons and build confidence.
“I liked that we won the opening draw and started with the puck, and then we had some patience,” stressed DeBoer. “We caught them tired, we got a line change, we got fresh bodies out there, and then Robertson does what he does best. He found some ice behind their defensemen and he doesn’t miss from there.”
Robertson’s second goal of the preseason has him tied with Evgenii Dadonov and Logan Stankoven for the team lead in that category.
Matěj Blümel also scored for the Stars, while Dadnov and defenseman Thomas Harley had two assists apiece.
Matt Murray and Remi Poirier split the goaltending duties.
