DALLAS - Prospect Logan Stankoven is enjoying a strong start to his professional career with the AHL’s Texas Stars.
The 20-year-old forward scored his second goal in as many games on Saturday night in a 2-1 loss to the Tucson Roadrunners at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Stankoven buried a feed from Mavrik Bourque with 13:47 remaining in the third period.
Fast forward to the two-minute mark of the clip below to see the entire sequence that led to the tally.
During his postgame media op, Stankoven shared that he’s already internalizing valuable lessons after making the jump from Juniors to the pros.
“Chances are always hard to come by. I think that’s what I’m learning, at least the first two games. It’s fast hockey, and it’s obviously harder to create, so I’ve got to kind of use my speed and get in on the forecheck more often,” said Stankoven, a second-round selection of Dallas in 2021. “[You see] the speed, and obviously the size of the players. You’re going up against grown men out there, so you’ve got to keep your head up. It was nice to get six preseason games in [with Dallas] and get ready for this.”
Asked by a reporter if he thought “professional hockey was going to be this easy” for him given his penchant for scoring thus far, the Kamloops, BC native quickly put that notion to rest.
“I wouldn’t say it’s easy whatsoever. It’s just right spot, right time, and obviously great plays by my teammates as well,” explained Stankoven. “I don’t expect to score every game, but obviously it’s a nice way to start off individually. I think as a team and collectively, it’d be nice to pop a few more in the net.”
Thus far, head coach Neil Graham has featured Stankoven on a line with Bourque and Matěj Blümel.
The Stars embark on a three-game road trip this week with stops in Chicago and Milwaukee.
