Joe Pavelski came up clutch for Dallas in a back-and-forth contest on home ice.

DALLAS - The Stars improved to 3-0-1 on the year with a 5-4 overtime victory over the Flyers on Saturday night at the American Airlines Center.

Here's a recap of the action:

    1st period: DAL 2 PHI 2

Wyatt Johnston opened the scoring for Dallas at the 4:02 mark of the first period with an outstanding individual effort for his first goal of the season.

Johnston stole the puck from defenseman Nick Seeler and proceeded to beat goaltender Samuel Ersson with a snapshot upstairs.

The goal was assisted by captain Jamie Benn.

Tyler Seguin doubled the Stars' lead at the 7:52 mark of the frame when he beat Ersson with a backhander between the pads in close.

Seguin's first goal of the season was assisted by Ryan Suter and Miro Heiskanen.

The Stars alternate captain was presented with a friendship bracelet in exchange for an autographed stick.

Philadelphia answered back at the 10:12 mark of the period when Joel Farabee put a loose puck past goaltender Scott Wedgewood.

Wedgewood was making his season debut after Jake Oettinger started three consecutive games to begin the campaign.

Travis Konecny scored the equalizer for the visitors with 3:24 left before the break, solving Wedgewood on a short-handed breakaway opportunity.

    2nd period: DAL 3 PHI 2

Roope Hintz needed just 30 seconds to put Dallas back in front 3-2 when he collected a pass from Jason Robertson and beat Ersson with a stick-side snapper from the circle.

Hintz's second goal of the season was also assisted by Joe Pavelski.

    3rd period: DAL 4 PHI 4

Benn added his second goal of the season at the 10:36 mark of the final stanza to put the Stars back in front by a pair.

Johnston collected the lone assist on the snipe.

Philadelphia answered right back with a pair of short-handed goals in a span of just 47 seconds courtesy of Konecny (11:58) and Sean Walker (12:45) to tie things up.

Konecny's second goal of the night kickstarted the rally.

That momentum led to Walker silencing the Stars faithful.

    Overtime: DAL 5 PHI 4

Pavelski scored the game-winner at the 2:13 mark of the extra period with a highlight-reel maneuver on Ersson.

His third goal of the season was assisted by Johnston.

Wedgewood finished the game with 36 saves on 40 shots to pick up the win.

The Stars are back in action on Tuesday night when they visit the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Puck drop is 6:30 p.m. CT.
