Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger suffered a lower-body injury three weeks ago on December 15 against the Ottawa Senators, and spoke to the media for the first time since then.
Oettinger was announced week-to-week after sustaining the injury, and recently both Oettinger and head coach Pete DeBoer have stated that he is progressing well and is now considered day-to-day.
Oettinger spoke to the media for the first time since suffering the injury and spoke about the mental toll that it had taken on him. “This is the third week I’ve been out. I can’t imagine guys who are out long-term. Mentally, as athletes, we’re wired like we want to have somewhere to be every day. If I didn’t have such a good support system and family and my fiancée, I’d be driving myself crazy.”
Oettinger was announced as the Stars' all-star representative on Thursday. This will be the 25-year-old goaltender's first all-star appearance. Oettinger has a .901 save percentage and a 2.93 goals-against average this season, to go along with an 11-7-2 record.
