Tyler Seguin got married in July, and Scott Wedgewood couldn't be happier for his hometown friend.

Tying the knot has brought Seguin ‘peace’

Tyler Seguin is clearly in a good place mentally heading into the season.

The veteran forward told reporters on Thursday at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park that it was the “best summer of my life” - and with good reason.

Seguin, 31, married Kate Kirchof in July in the Bahamas surrounded by family and friends.

“It gives you that peace, coming home, just that peace, having someone there at all times, someone that you care about and adore,” said Seguin, as the Stars’ training camp officially began earlier this week. “It helps you focus on work a lot easier and there’s not as much distractions, so I’m excited for this year on and off the ice.”

One of the wedding guests was goaltender Scott Wedgewood, who like Seguin hails from Brampton, ON.

The pair have been close friends for quite a while and were even former teammates with the OHL's Plymouth Whalers.

“I knew a lot of his groomsmen from our hometown, and saw his parents and family members. Seeing his aunt and grandma at one point, it was kind of a flashback, and they remembered me, so it was a nice connection. They know how to party, so it was fun to see some old friends, people that he’s still close with that I knew, and obviously seeing him take another step in his life that I’ve been a part of and along for the ride for a long time,” recounted Wedgewood. “It’s cool to see as we grow up here and what he’s done. Obviously being able to find himself a wife is a task we all struggle with, but we’ve both done it now.”

Just how far back do the connections between Seguin and Wedgewood go?

There’s actually some cool history between the two of them.

“He got his appendix out next to my brother in the hospital. We’ve played on similar childhood teams. He was a year up, and then we played against each other, drafted to Plymouth. There’s a long list of friends and people that we both interacted with over the years and we still talk about different people we met at bars when we were younger,” added Wedgewood. “I went over to his house when I got traded here and just kind of looked around. I was like: ‘Dude, this is sick!’ Just thinking back to where we were and what we were dealing with - high school, homework, just random things. He would drive me to high school when we were 16. It’s funny to think about it that way. We went separate ways for a while, came back, and then you both grow up and now we’ve both got wives, dogs, and family’s next. It’s going to be exciting to watch. You’ve got a lifelong friend out of it, so it’s pretty cool to look back on.”
