The plan remains to give Scott Wedgewood his fair share of starts.

DALLAS - Goaltender Jake Oettinger will undoubtedly play a significant role in helping the Stars potentially achieve their ultimate objective this season.

Just look at his numbers through four appearances between the pipes - a 3-0-1 record, along with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. That’s an outstanding stat line.

Oettinger wasn’t in net for Thursday night’s loss to the Maple Leafs as head coach Pete DeBoer elected to give him a break. Scott Wedgewood made his second start of the year.

Affording Oettinger some rest, whenever possible, is always a top priority.

“It’s critical. We saw last year. We had to ride [Jake] because of Wedgewood’s injury down the stretch, and fatigue’s real on starting goaltenders with the type of schedule we play,” said DeBoer. "[Jake] had offseason surgery, and because of that he couldn’t train and practice like he wanted to in a normal summer, so we wanted to make sure we didn’t ride him into the ground the first 10 or 20 games based on what he went through over the summer. We’ve gotten Wedgie into two of the first six games, which is a good number, and we’re going to hope to continue with at least that going forward.”

The Stars don’t play again until Monday night when they host the Blues Jackets at the American Airlines Center. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. CT.
