DALLAS - The Stars were dealt a 3-2 shootout loss by the Golden Knights on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena.

Craig Smith and Joe Pavelski scored for head coach Pete DeBoer's contingent in regulation, while goaltender Jake Oettinger made 32 saves.

Dallas was leading 2-1 with 2:59 left in the third period when William Karlsson scored the equalizer for Vegas to force the extra frame.

The bonus stanza decided nothing, so a shootout was required.

Shea Theodore and Jonathan Marchessault ultimately beat Oettinger on breakaways to secure the victory and improve the Golden Knights' record to 4-0-0 on the year.

Matt Duchene lit the lamp for the visitors, while attempts from Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz were denied by netminder Adin Hill.

It marked Hintz's first game of the season after returning from an upper-body injury. He assisted on Pavelski's 450th career NHL tally and collected a couple of shots on goal.

Captain Jamie Benn and Mason Marchment dropped the gloves during the contest.

The Stars conclude their two-game road trip on Thursday night with a matchup against the Ducks at Honda Center in Anaheim. Puck drop is 9:00 p.m. CT.
