The Dallas Stars continue their homestand when the Toronto Maple Leafs roll into town on Wednesday night. The Stars possess the league's top defence with a 2.50 goals against average in large part because of superstar goaltender Jake Oettinger.
The Buds can also defend well as they have a 2.61 goals against average, which ranks top six in the NHL. Toronto will look to start Joseph Woll opposite Oettinger and should present a stellar showcase between two elite goaltenders with each having averages under 2.32 goals against.
Dallas has an almost identical record to Toronto with both teams recording 19 wins so far this season. The Leafs have dominated this matchup however, with wins in 11 of their last 13 matchups against the Stars, including six straight wins at American Airlines Center.
It'll be a tightly contested matchup as both teams are entering with wins in three of their last four games. Leafs captain Auston Matthews will need to be a focal point of the Stars defence as the Arizona native is starting to heat up.
The 69-goal scorer last season hasn't found his scoring touch just yet as he's recorded just ten goals this season but he's recorded five of those goals in last eight games. He's made a habit of scoring versus the Stars with seven goals in his last six games on the road in Dallas.
The matchup between Oettinger and the Stars defence versus Matthews will be an interesting one to watch and in response, the red hot Jason Robertson can hopefully pierce the Leafs defence after recording a pair of goals and four assists for six points over his last four games. Robertson will get the rare opportunity of facing off against his brother Nick, who currently plays on the Leafs third line.
It'll be a great game between two elite teams and if you want to check out the game at 6:30 CT on ESPN+ or Victory+ and you can also listen along on Sportsradio 96.7 and 1310 The Ticket. If you are interested in attending, tickets are extremely affordable for Stars versus Leafs with the lowest pair being sold for roughly $16USD.
