DALLAS - The Stars were finally defeated in exhibition play on Sunday night, falling 4-3 to the Avalanche in overtime at Ball Arena.

Dallas sits at 3-0-1 during the preseason after four games.

Trailing 3-1 late in the third period, Matěj Blümel and Nils Lundkvist scored 2:24 apart to force the extra frame.

Lundkvist’s equalizer came with just 27.6 seconds left in regulation.

The celebration was short-lived, however, as Oskar Olausson sealed the victory for Colorado with 19 seconds remaining in OT.

“Coming in here against this team with MacKinnon’s line dressed, we knew it would be a tough night,” said head coach Pete DeBoer. “I thought we battled. I thought our goalies were our best players, which you need to get. Both goaltenders were great, Wedgie for two periods and Gibby for the third. We found a way to get some timely goals. A lot of guys worked hard.”

Scott Wedgewood stopped 19 of 22 shots, while Christopher Gibson stopped 14 of 15 shots.

Nicholas Caamano also scored for Dallas.

The Stars’ upcoming preseason contests against the Avalanche (Tuesday) and Blues (Thursday) will be held at American Airlines Center, and starting goaltender Jake Oettinger should see some action.

Oettinger has yet to play any exhibition minutes.

“We’ve got to get Jake Oettinger in there and get him up to speed. That’s a priority,” confirmed DeBoer. “This was an important step for Wedgie, getting two good periods. He probably had the equivalent of three periods of work with the two periods that he had. He was under pressure a lot, so we’ve got him going in the right direction. I feel good about him. The next three games, we’ve got to make sure Jake Oettinger gets some work.”
