Goaltenders Jake Oettinger and Charlie Lindgren were on point and stood tall to stop several high danger chances for each team." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Near the end of the period, Dylan Strome got his second opportunity to fly by the front of Oettinger's net and get an uncontested tip of a point shot. The first was saved, but the second one found its way past the Stars netminder and gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "The front end second period gave the Capitals several more chances to take the lead, with Connor McMichael getting stoned by Oettinger's right pad on a power play and then just after, McMichael was denied by the crossbar after a turnover in front of the net. The big man fired a wrist shot from the point that grazed off of Caps defenseman Rasmus Sandin and perfectly into the back of the net. The Capitals had two more opportunities on the power play in the third, but just like in the first two periods, could not capitalize on the rugged Stars penalty kill. Only the Chicago Blackhawks (surprisingly) have a better home penalty kill than Dallas, and it showed against an Ovechkin-less Washington man-advantage.

Lundkvist was clearly not fully healthy and couldn't give it a go for the final period.
