Goaltenders Jake Oettinger and Charlie Lindgren were on point and stood tall to stop several high danger chances for each team." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Near the end of the period, Dylan Strome got his second opportunity to fly by the front of Oettinger's net and get an uncontested tip of a point shot. The first was saved, but the second one found its way past the Stars netminder and gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "The front end second period gave the Capitals several more chances to take the lead, with Connor McMichael getting stoned by Oettinger's right pad on a power play and then just after, McMichael was denied by the crossbar after a turnover in front of the net. The big man fired a wrist shot from the point that grazed off of Caps defenseman Rasmus Sandin and perfectly into the back of the net. Only the Chicago Blackhawks (surprisingly) have a better home penalty kill than Dallas, and it showed against an Ovechkin-less Washington man-advantage.

Lundkvist was clearly not fully healthy and couldn't give it a go for the final period.
