On Monday, Washington Capitals winger and future Hall of Famer Alex Ovechkin announced Monday that he will retire from the NHL at the end of this season, closing a career that includes 1,575 games, a league-record 929 goals and 759 assists.

Following the announcement, fans quickly began checking when the 41-year-old will make his last visit to their city. For Detroit, it will come near the very end of the season. Ovechkin's final trip to Hockeytown is scheduled for March 24, the Red Wings' fourth-to-last home game of the year.

The game will also feature a promotional giveaway, with the Red Wings celebrating We Are Hockeytown: Hockey Without Limits, along with a Healthcare Appreciation Tote Bag and a University of Michigan hat with each giveaway coming with select ticket packages.

Red Wings fans will remember that early in Ovechkin's career, Detroit did a good job of slowing the elite goal scorer. The Russian legend has posted some of his lowest numbers against the Red Wings, with 25 goals and 17 assists for 42 points in 41 career games. That total is the 16th-most points he has against any one team.
