Sports fans in the Motor City can be justified in double-checking their calendars to make sure they haven't gone back in time.

The Detroit Tigers have Justin Verlander in their starting rotation, the Detroit Red Wings are charging toward the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Detroit Pistons are the top team in the Eastern Conference, and the Detroit Lions missed the playoffs. 

It harkens back to an era of the mid 2000s, not long before the Red Wings won their eighth and most recent Stanley Cup, the Tigers advanced to the World Series, and the Pistons won their most recent NBA title.
