The Detroit Red Wings took a two games to none series lead over the St. Louis Blues in the 2002 Western Conference Semifinal before the Blues won Game 3 in resounding fashion, 6-1 at Savvis Center.
However, Detroit rebounded with a 4-3 victory in Game 4 that also included a critical injury to Blues captain Chris Pronger, knocking him out of action for not only the rest of the series but the next several months with a torn ACL.
Game 5 back at Joe Louis Arena proved to be no contest, as the Red Wings advanced to the Western Conference Final with a 4-0 win. Brendan Shanahan scored twice, while Dominik Hasek made 16 saves to pick up the shutout.
