On this day in 2003, Detroit Red Wings legend Sergei Fedorov scored his 400th career goal, becoming just the fourth player in franchise history to reach that milestone.

Fedorov enjoyed an outstanding NHL career spanning 18 seasons, including 13 with the Red Wings where he was a cornerstone of Detroit’s success throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. In his time with Detroit he scored 400 goals and added 554 assists for 954 points in 908 games, ranking him among the top scorers in franchise history.

He also won three Stanley Cup championships in 1997, 1998 and 2002, and earned individual honors such as the Hart Memorial Trophy as League MVP and two Frank J. Selke Trophies as the NHL’s best defensive forward.

Across his full NHL career with Detroit, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals Fedorov totaled 1,179 points (483 goals and 696 assists) in 1,248 games.

Fedorov’s contributions to the Red Wings were recently recognized in a long‑anticipated honor when Detroit officially retired his No. 91 jersey on January 12, 2026, making him the ninth player in franchise history to have his number raised to the rafters at Little Caesars Arena. The ceremony celebrated his legacy and the indelible mark he left on the team and its fans.
