The Detroit Red Wings have suffered a pair of costly losses over the last 24 hours, first to the Eastern Conference-worst New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon, followed by a heartbreaking 5–4 defeat against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. 

Rookie Gabe Perreault scored a hat trick for the Rangers on Saturday, followed by a hat trick from Russian sniper Kirill Kaprizov on Sunday. 

Both losses have pushed the Red Wings' season to the brink, as they are on the outside in looking at the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as their runway continues to run out. 

They have five games remaining in the schedule, starting with a critical tilt against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
