It was on this day in 1998 that the Detroit Red Wings not only repeated as Stanley Cup champions with a 4-0 sweep over the Washington Capitals, but captain Steve Yzerman was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as postseason MVP.

During Detroit's journey to the Stanley Cup, Yzerman tallied six goals with 18 assists, capturing postseason MVP honors for the first time in his Hall of Fame career.
