Before that, current Detroit Red Wings goalie Cam Talbot had been the most recent to fight, taking on Mike Smith of the Edmonton Oilers while with the Calgary Flames in early 2020.
Speaking of Red Wings goalie fights, generations of fans still love to talk about the legendary bouts between both Mike Vernon and Chris Osgood against Patrick Roy in 1997 and 1998, respectively.
But fans were robbed of what would have been the third Red Wings goalie to take on Roy in only a few short years in early March 2002.

Dominik Hasek, in his first season in Detroit after being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres, skated down the Pepsi Center ice to confront Roy, inadvertently tripped on a stick, and took an incensed Roy down to the ice.
While both goalies wanted to go at it, the on-ice officials prevented it.
