Former Detroit Red Wings forward Vladimir Tarasenko had an extremely underwhelming first and ultimately only season in Detroit in 2024-25, reaching only 11 goals scored when he was expected to have no less than double that amount.

Detroit traded him and his entire $4.75 million salary cap hit to the Minnesota Wild over the offseason, but so far, he hasn't fared much better playing in the Twin Cities. Through his first 18 games, Tarasenko has scored only twice while adding eight assists.
And now, following an injury in practice, Tarasenko has been placed on Injured Reserve by the Wild and isn't expected to see the ice for the immediate future after he sustained a lower-body injury during practice.
It looks as though Tarasenko's NHL career could be winding to a close with his stats having taken such a nosedive, along with his being in the final season of his contract.
