Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender James Reimer, who played a lone season with the club in 2023-24, has now joined his eighth NHL team.

He was signed to a one-year contract by the Ottawa Senators, who are without starter Linus Ullmark after he took a leave of absence. Ironically, his first start with the Senators came against the Red Wings on Sunday evening; he made 30 saves for Ottawa in a 4-3 overtime win for his former team.

Reimer had hoped to suit up once again for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with whom he played several seasons earlier in his NHL career. However, his professional tryout with the Leafs in the fall didn't result in a roster spot.

Along with Toronto, Detroit, and Ottawa, Reimer has played for the San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, and Buffalo Sabres.
