The Detroit Red Wings signed veteran NHL forward James van Riemsdyk to a one-year contract that carries a reasonable $1 million cap hit for the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season.

The signing came shortly after the Red Wings traded Vladimir Tarasenko, who disappointed with only 11 goals in his first and only season in Detroit, to the Minnesota Wild.

The Red WIngs will look to van Riemsdyk, who scored 16 goals as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, to provide timely offense and he could see time within Detroit's top-six forward units.
