Last offseason, the Detroit Red Wings made a change in their goaltending department, dismissing goalie coach Alex Westlund and hiring former NHL/AHL veteran Michael Leighton.
Leighton, who was in goal for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010 when Patrick Kane scored the iconic Stanley Cup-winning goal, made AHL history on this day in 2008.
While playing for the AHL's Albany River Rats, he made a whopping 98 saves in a five-overtime marathon game against the Philadelphia Phantoms.
Unfortunately, he and the River Rats didn't pick up the win, but he still turned in the performance of a lifetime.
