On this day in 2013, Pavel Datsyuk pulled off one of the most unforgettable moves in NHL history, undressing Logan Couture with a jaw-dropping deke that instantly went viral. Tough moment for Couture, but a perfect snapshot of Datsyuk’s brilliance.

Datsyuk spent his entire NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings from 2001 to 2016, playing 953 regular season games and recording 918 points with 314 goals and 604 assists. He added 113 points in 157 playoff games and was a key part of Detroit’s 2002 and 2008 Stanley Cup championships.

Known as “The Magic Man,” Datsyuk combined elite offensive skill with unmatched defensive awareness. He won the Selke Trophy three times as the NHL’s best defensive forward in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He also captured four consecutive Lady Byng Trophies from 2006 to 2009 for sportsmanship and skill.

Datsyuk was selected to four NHL All-Star Games and consistently ranked among the league’s top two-way players. His puck control, creativity, and ability to embarrass defenders made him one of the most respected and entertaining players of his era.

Internationally, he added to his legacy with Russia by winning Olympic gold in 2018 and multiple World Championship medals.
