Red Wings Boast Rare Roster Quirk of Four Players Sharing the Same Birthday

The Detroit Red Wings are known for plenty of things, but a shared birthday among four forwards is a roster feat few fans saw coming.

On Thursday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman discussed the unusual stat during his 32 Thoughts podcast with co-host Kyle Bukauskas. The fact came courtesy of a listener who wrote in to point out that Detroit has four different forwards who all celebrate their birthday on April 8th.

Viktor Arvidsson, J.T. Compher, Keegan Kolesar and Marco Kasper all share the date, although they were born in different years. It is a truly rare coincidence, as having four players on one roster with the same birthday is unusual on its own, let alone all four being forwards.

It is also a funny piece of roster trivia that was almost certainly not considered when the Red Wings brought in Arvidsson and Kolesar in free agency. Whatever the reason, the front office managed to assemble a lineup with a quirk that is bound to become a fun talking point for fans.

The schedule also happens to work out nicely for the group as Detroit is off on April 7 and 8 before returning to action at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 9, giving the Red Wings plenty of time to celebrate each player's birthday together.

For a team looking for ways to bring its locker room closer than ever, it appears the calendar has already done some of the work.
