One of the most stacked teams in National Hockey League history, the 2001-02 Detroit Red Wings boasted 10 future Hall of Fame players.

During the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, the Red Wings sent multiple players to the games:

  • United States: Brett Hull, Chris Chelios
  • Canada: Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan
  • Czech Republic: Dominik Hasek
  • Sweden: Nicklas Lidstrom
  • Russia: Sergei Fedorov, Pavel Datsyuk, Igor Larionov

Ultimately, it would be the combination of Yzerman and Shanahan that helped Canada claim gold over Chelios, Hull, and the rest of the United States team, who took home the silver medal.

Meanwhile, Fedorov, Datsyuk, and Larionov helped Russia earn the bronze medal.
