Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde provides an update on the state of his goaltending room

Red Wings Early Season Goaltending Vibe Check

DETROIT—After this morning's skate, Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde provided an update on the state of his goaltending room.  At the skate, Ville Husso and Sebastian Cossa were the only two goaltenders on the ice, suggesting that Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon (Lalonde's first choice tandem) would not be available.  After the skate, Lalonde affirmed that Husso would get the nod against the Colorado Avalanche tonight at Little Caesars Arena.  Cossa will back up, as he has the previous two games for Detroit.

Meanwhile, of Talbot and Lyon, Lalonde said, "we were hoping to see them hit the ice soon here.  I'd probably rule both of them out at least for the next two."  Perhaps in that initial phrasing "we were hoping," Lalonde alludes to a set back of some kind to one or both of Talbot or Lyon, but either way, the important takeaway is that he will have to keep leaning on Husso and Cossa for the forseable future.  With each day Lyon and Talbot cannot return, the possibility of Cossa's NHL debut grows.

As for the rest of the lineup, here's how Detroit took this morning's skate:

Lalonde confirmed that forward Christian Fischer and defenseman Albert Johansson will be the odd men out this evening, with Lalonde describing the re-introduction of Joe Veleno and Erik Gustafsson as "rotation" to keep his full team involved.
