There's a new sheriff in town.

Sheriff of the Detroit Red Wings net that is.

Cam Talbot, a newcomer to the organization, has claimed the Red Wings net. And his grip on the position is not letting up.

And the stats back this up.

Talbot has the eighth-best goals against average (GAA) and the third-best save percentage (SV%) among all goalies who have played at least five games. If he can maintain his 2.45 GAA and .929 SV%, those would be among the best numbers of his career.

Looking to Moneypuck for Goals Saved Above Expected, and Talbot ranks fourth with 6.2. While it's still early in the season, this bodes well for the Red Wings.

The 37-year-old stormed into the league by posting elite numbers to begin his career. Talbot played two years for the New York Rangers and two for the Edmonton Oilers.

In the first four years of his career, he played 21, 36, 56, and 73 games. He posted a 1.64, 2.21, 2.55, and 2.39 GAA in that span. Additionally, he had a SV% of .941, .926, .917, and .919.

He's poised to end the season in the same ballpark for those categories. This is great news for the Red Wings and Talbot, who is now playing for the eighth team in his career.

If the Red Wings net was up for grabs at the beginning of the season, it certainly isn't now.
