Detroit's marquee off-season acquisition could hardly be off to a better start to his Red Wings tenure. He is the league's leader in goals and points, he owns the two top single-game performances of the young season, by Game Score, and he has helped pave the way to five consecutive Detroit victories.
Over the past week, DeBrincat started slowly.
He picked up just an assist in the Red Wings' 4-0 shutout victory over the Blue Jackets. Then, against Pittsburgh last Wednesday, DeBrincat scored twice and gave an assist. Over the weekend, he was skunked for the only time in his Red Wing career in Ottawa, only to bounce back for an offensive eruption to close out his week, with a hat trick and an assist against the Flames last night.
After DeBrincat failed to light the lamp in the preseason, there were rumbles of worry about his fit in Detroit or alongside Dylan Larkin on the Red Wings' top line. However, his furious start has more than laid those concerns to rest.
Beside Larkin and Lucas Raymond, DeBrincat looks perfectly at home back in his home state, and the trio looks as dangerous as any line in the league in transition through the season's first six games.
DeBrincat's 12 points lead the league, and Larkin is second, hot on his heels with 11. Meanwhile, DeBrincat's 12 goals are also the top mark in the league, and Larkin currently shares the league lead in assists with Elias Pettersson at eight.
If the season's early results are indicator, the trade to bring in DeBrincat and his fit with the Red Wings could not look any better.
The league's second star of the week went to Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, and Florida Panthers center Sam Reinhart earned the third star.
