Updates on Robby Fabbri, Christian Fischer, and Dylan Larkin's availability for tomorrow's game between the Detroit Red Wings & New York Rangers

Updates on Robby Fabbri, Christian Fischer, and Dylan Larkin's availability for tomorrow's game between the Detroit Red Wings & New York Rangers

On Monday at noon, the Detroit Red Wings held their final practice before traveling to New York for tomorrow's date with the New York Rangers.

Robby Fabbri (out since the season opener) and Christian Fischer (who missed Saturday's game with the Bruins) both practiced.  However, captain Dylan Larkin (who missed a shift or two Saturday night but was able to finish the game) did not participate.

Derek Lalonde provided an update on the status of all three players at his post-practice press availability.

"We'll see for tomorrow," said the second-year coach of Larkin.  "He's battling through some bumps and bruises there, so we hope to have him for tomorrow, but that'll probably be 'evaluate in the morning.'"  The injury did not preclude Larkin from scoring a vital third period equalizer against the Bruins.

Lalonde added that it is an "upper body" injury nagging his captain and that Larkin "probably gutted through that game [against Boston] on adrenaline."

Whether or not Larkin is available, Detroit does not intend to turn to Grand Rapids for reinforcements for the trip to New York.  "We're comfortable with our 12 [forwards] we skated with today, and obviously, we could go 11 and seven," said Lalonde.

Lalonde also confirmed that Fabbri would return to the line-up tomorrow night and added "we expect to have Fisch too.  He obviously was at practice today, and we'll see how he responds from the skate."

Fabbri was injured late in Detroit's season opener against the Devils back on October 12th and has not played since.  Lalonde praised the winger's work to get back to health, saying "he did a good job with his rehab.  He worked really hard on it."

After injuries limited to just 28 games a year ago and then derailed his start to '23-24, Lalonde conceded that he has probably only seen "spurts" of the best of Fabbri's game.  However, he noted that "obviously, he's a player we like and value—not only what he is on the ice, but also he's a big part of our leadership corps."
