An update on Jeff Petry, Carter Mazur, and Jonatan Berggren, courtesy of Derek Lalonde after Friday's practice

The Detroit Red Wings will travel to Boston this afternoon in preparation for tomorrow's tilt with the Atlantic-leading Bruins. Before they hit the road, the team practiced today at the BELFOR Performance Center in the bowels of Little Caesars Arena. After that practice, Derek Lalonde provided an update on a few key members of his team.
First of all, Lalonde confirmed that Jeff Petry would be in the line-up for Saturday night's game against the Bruins. That news is no surprise after the coach said before yesterday's game that they were giving him an extra day "to manage his upper body" with the expectation that he would be available for Saturday.
Lalonde had another piece of good news to offer when it came to prospect Carter Mazur. "I'm hearing Mazur could be available to start practicing as early as next week, but obviously I'm not there, not in that process." Lalonde confirmed that Mazur's rehab is happening in Grand Rapids with the Griffins and their training staff. He added "hopefully Mazur can start getting some games there."
Mazur suffered a lower body injury during the Red Wings' first game of the Prospects Tournament in Traverse City back in mid-September that caused him to miss the remainder of the tournament and all of camp. His impressive development camp over the summer had him in line to compete for an NHL roster spot, so it is welcome news to see him finally approaching full health.
Finally, Lalonde revealed that the team had been planning to send Jonatan Berggren back to Grand Rapids for some more minutes with Klim Kostin returning to game action and Alex DeBrincat's time under the weather lasting just a single practice. However, that plan has since changed.
"Where a couple of our guys are with their health, couple of bumps and bruises, a lot of hockey to play, he'll end up coming on the trip with us and [we'll] evaluate in the morning," Lalonde said of Berggren, who was a healthy scratch last night against the Jets.
