Via a Wes Anderson-inspired Twitter video, the Detroit Red Wings announced their schedule for the 2023-24 season early this afternoon.
The Red Wings will begin the regular season on Thursday, October 12th in Newark with a road match-up against the New Jersey Devils. Two nights later in Detroit, they will play their home opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Little Caesars Arena.
Beyond the season and home openers, the biggest highlight of the regular season figures to be a November trip to Sweden for the NHL Global Series.
On November 16th, Detroit will take on the Ottawa Senators, and the following evening the Wings will play Toronto. Officially, the Ottawa game is a road contest and the Leafs game home, but both will be played at Avicii Arena in Stockholm (the world's largest spherical building).
After their European vacation, Detroit's first game back stateside will be Wednesday, November 22nd (the day before Thanksgiving) against the Devils at home.
December will be the busiest month of the season for the Wings with fifteen games, culminating in a New Year's Eve 5:00 PM puck drop against the Boston Bruins in Detroit.
The NHL's All-Star Game will be held in Toronto the first weekend of February. In association with that break, Detroit will have the first nine days of the month off before a February 10th match-up with the Vancouver Canucks at home.
Detroit's final home game of the season will come on April 15th against the Montreal Canadiens. One night later, the Wings will travel to Montreal for their final game of the regular season. That home-and-home will mark one of ten back-to-backs the Red Wings will play this season.
