The way the NHL is set up, the most Connor McDavid can make is 20% of the team's cap ceiling each season.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman recently said the Oilers would gladly pay Connor McDavid $50 million per year in a cap-free market.

Edmonton Journal’s David Staples backed that up by comparing McDavid’s value to stars in other leagues—like Dak Prescott, Steph Curry, and Juan Soto—based on team revenue. His estimates show McDavid could fairly earn between $38–$95 million annually, depending on the model.

So, here’s the question: If NHL salary rules didn’t exist, would Connor McDavid actually be worth $50 million per season?

Let us know what you think.
