Injury Update on Savoie and Andersen
After learning that four players will be out of training camp for the Edmonton Oilers, TSN's Ryan Rishaug offered a bit of an update on two of the four. Matt Savoie and Frederik Andersen are both out following off-ice injuries during training. It's unclear exactly what happened, but Rishaug noted in a post on X that "Sounds like Savoie and Andersen will be available late October or so." This isn't great news for Edmonton but it's not awful news, either. It means both players will miss approximately a month of the regular season. The 2026-27 season officially starts on September 29.

Is Anyone Really All That Worried About What Reid Schaefer Will Become?
The trade that sent Tyson Barrie and Reid Schaefer to the Nashville Predators (among other pieces) was a winning trade to acquire Mattias Ekholm. Will it remain that way if the Edmonton Oilers don't win a Stanley Cup and Schaefer becomes a solid power forward?

Are the Oilers Likely to Lose a Top Goaltending Prospect?
Edmonton Oilers goalie prospect Samuel Jonsson is reportedly expected to return to Sweden rather than play in the organization this season. The 22-year-old impressed last year with Fort Wayne and appeared ready for an AHL promotion, but Edmonton’s crowded goalie depth chart includes Matt Tomkins, Connor Ungar and Eemil Vinni. Oilers prospect guru Bruce Curlock believes playing in the SHL would still benefit Jonsson’s development, but questions whether the situation could impact his enthusiasm toward the Oilers organization.

How Impactful Will Mathieu Joseph Be For the Oilers?
The Edmonton Oilers made several major offseason moves, but Mathieu Joseph’s one-year, $1 million deal has largely flown under the radar. That could be a mistake, and he might be one of the team's surprises of the season. Joseph brings speed, relentless forechecking and strong defensive play, ranking among the NHL’s better defensive forwards in recent seasons. He has also been an effective penalty killer, addressing an area Edmonton needs to improve. With D.J. Smith familiar with Joseph from their time in Ottawa and Los Angeles, he could have an inside track on a roster spot. Rather than simply being depth, Joseph could push for a regular bottom-six role. Do you think Joseph will be a good fit this season?

What Do You Project for Vasily Podkolzin This Coming Season?
If there's a player on this season's NHL roster primed to make a jump, it's Vasily Podkolzin. Widely known as the hardest worker on the team, he's first on and last off at every practice. Podkolzin is putting in the work to improve and it's starting show dividends. Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer recently posted that he believes Podkolzin takes another step forward from his solid 2025-26 season. He notes, "On the verge of becoming a play-driving winger." So what can Podkolzin do? Is he capable of 20 goals and 30 assists? More?
