Connor McDavid's injury will now be remembered for another reason.

EDMONTON -- Connor McDavid has hit a career low.

The Edmonton Oilers captain was eight points shy of becoming the third-fastest player to reach 1000 career points. That was foiled by an awkward-looking play that injured the star forward. The full extent of that injury should be known in the coming days.
Last year, he became the first player in 30 years to collect 100 assists in the regular season. He also broke the single playoff record for assists in a playoff run, breaking Wayne Gretzky's 32-assist record with 34 apples of his own.
Unfortunately for the generational talent, his injury on Monday night brought a career-low moment.
McDavid was injured in the opening play of the game. After he fell and collided with the boards, he sauntered off to the bench and didn't return to the game.
He played a total of 37 seconds.

That is the least McDavid has ever skated in a game. He has been injured in a few other games and didn't return. Breaking his collarbone in his rookie season and colliding with a goalie post in the last game of the season several years ago are the first ones that come to mind.
But in both games, he played in the ballpark for 10 minutes before the injuries occurred. That was not the case last night.

Above all else, this unfortunate incident highlights how strange the injury itself is. Not many players can say that they got injured in a game on their first shift.
Edmonton, and the rest of the hockey world, wait for the prognosis of the world-famous superstar with bated breath.
