Darnell Nurse didn't have a great night - but he had one shining moment that stopped a goal against.

EDMONTON -- That wasn't the 60 minute effort the Edmonton Oilers were hoping for.

The first 20 minutes went well - as the Oilers were up 2-0 on the Dallas Stars. Then the second period happened. The Stars stormed back and made the game interesting. They dominated possession. They dominated the shot clock.

Halfway through the second period they had overtaken the Oilers on the shot clock 12-10 despite only having three shots in the first period. It looked like the Stars were playing keep-away with the Oilers for the first half of the middle frame.

With three minutes of the second period left Darnell Nurse made one of the most memorable shot blocks of recent memory.

This Mason Marchment shot appears to go off of the top of Nurse's tailbone - so pretty much his backside.

In the heat of the moment they are trying to stop the puck any way they can. There's no doubt that Nurse stopped a guaranteed goal from going in with that block. That's the kind of effort you need from one of the leaders on your team.

Say what you will about his play lately, he certainly puts everything he has out onto the ice for every shift. Now the Oilers just need to work on not putting themselves in situations where these desperation plays are needed.

Onward and upward.
