An overview of Edmonton Oilers stats revolving around the Heritage Classic.
On October 29th the Edmonton Oilers will play against the Calgary Flames in the first outdoor game this 2023-24 regular season. This installment of the Heritage Classic will be the first time both teams will play each other this season. The Oilers have a 1-5-1 record while the Flames are 2-5-1. Puck drop will be at 5pm Mountain Time.

20th Anniversary of First Heritage Classic
November 22nd, 2003 was the first ever Heritage Classic. It was between the Montreal Canadiens and the Oilers. The Oilers would lose the game 4-3. Jose Theodore famously wore a toque during the game to help stay warm.
There was also an alumni game played between the Oilers and Canadiens. Although Mark Messier was the captain of the New York Rangers at the time, he was granted permission to represent the Oilers in the alumni game.
Alberta Likes the Outdoors
This will be the third time appearing in a Heritage Classic for both the Oilers and the Flames. This will be the first time the Battle of Alberta has been outside.
No other province in Canada has hosted an outdoor game three times - except Alberta.
Chasing a Record
The first Heritage Classic 20 years ago still holds the record for the highest attendance at an outdoor NHL game. 57,167 attendees braved the -18°C/0°F Alberta weather to witness the historic milestone.
There are 60,000 tickets available for the 2023 Heritage Classic between the Flames and Oilers. The expectation is that all tickets will be sold out by the time the puck drops.
