Edmonton Oilers forward Derek Ryan just re-signed with the team. 2 years at $900,000 AAV.
Ken Holland took care of a little bit of business today by re-signing depth forward Derek Ryan. While he was primarily a 4th line center, Ryan often played up and down the lineup over the regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He was coming off another two-year deal, one that paid him $1.25 per season. The contract he signed today was for $900,000 average annual value (AAV).
Ryan posted 20 points in 80 games during the Oilers regular season. He would add three points in 11 games during the 2022-23 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

In a post he shared on Instagram Ryan wrote that "We love it here and we're excited for what the future holds". It sounds like Ryan and his family are enjoying what the city has to offer. That helps keep good players and good people within the organization.
The 36-year-old veteran center has worked hard to get to this point in his career. He didn't make it to the NHL on the easy path. Ryan didn't sign his first NHL contract until he was already 28 years old. Ryan went from the WHL to playing college hockey at the University of Alberta (located in Edmonton) followed by another four years of hockey overseas split between Austria and Sweden. His first deal was a one year $600,000 contract for the Carolina Hurricanes.
This is the first of many dominos to fall for the Oilers this summer. Which item will Holland check off his list next?
