Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin were traded to the Detroit Red Wings.
After months of speculation and debate, the day has come. The Edmonton Oilers have traded Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin to the Detroit Red Wings.
Kostin was included in the deal despite Ken Holland really liking his performance this past season. “He had a really good year for us,” Holland recently told The Hockey News. “I like where he’s at. Next year, his goal is to get a bigger role. What’s a bigger role? It’s more ice time. What’s more ice time? To go from eight minutes a night to 12 to 14 minutes a night.”
Yamamoto goes to a team where his $3.1-million cap hit helps them get to the cap floor. He'll immediately provides depth to the Red Wings middle six. He still has ample time to develop into a top-six winger, and the Red Wings is a great organization for him to find consistency with.
With Yamamoto off the books, they now have $8.932-million in cap space. Attention now turns to Free Agency and the trade market, where the Oilers will remain in the conversation.
