Stuart Skinner is coming off a Calder Trophy Finalist season - while Jack Campbell looks to bounce back from a career-worst year. A few incredibly short (but entertaining) stints with the team as well as really good goaltenders who performed well while the rest of the team fell flat. ILYA BRYZGALOV GP: 20, GAA: 3.01, SV%: .908, W-L: 5-8, SO: 1 Ilya Bryzgalov [https://thehockeynews.com/.image/c_fit,h_600,w_600/MjAwODYzMjEwMzk0MzYzMjY2/usatsi_7812556_168401874_lowres.jpg] Ilya Bryzgalov "North Pole baby, it's the coldest place I've ever been" is an actual quote from Ilya Bryzgalov - speaking about his experience being a visiting team to Edmonton before he was a member of the organization. Bryzgalov's tenure with the Oilers was short, but the team surrounding him in the 2013-14 season was not great. That year they finished 29th in the NHL with a 29-44-9 record. Out of the ashes of that season came the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, where they would select Leon Draisaitl at 3rd overall. RON TUGNUTT GP: 29, GAA: 4.23, SV%: .877, W-L: 10-13, SO: 0 One of my favorite hockey player names of all-time has to be the next goaltender on the list - Ron Tugnutt. Tugnutt played 29 games for the Oilers spread out over two seasons. The games were played between the 1991-92 & 1992-93 seasons. These were just after the golden years of the organization, which is reflected in Tugnutt's win-loss record. Anaheim Ducks (then called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim), Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Dallas Stars would all employ his services for at least one season. His best statistical season would come with the Senators in 1998-99. In 43 games he posted a 1.79 goals against average (GAA), .925 save percentage (SV%) with three shutouts and a 22-10 win-loss record. FRED BRATHWAITE GP: 40, GAA: 3.52, SV%: .885, W-L: 5-17, SO: 0 Fred Brathwaite was perhaps better known as a netminder for the Calgary Flames. He spent three seasons there in the late 90's and early 2000's. He also played for the Oilers for three seasons- 1993-94, 1994-95, 1995-96. He never really solidified himself as an NHL starter until he played for the Flames - bouncing between the NHL and AHL quite a bit until then. NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN GP: 117, GAA: 3.00, SV%: .903, W-L: 33-67, SO: 5 Nikolai Khabibulin. With the nickname of "the Bulin Wall" Nikolai Khabibulin was a great goaltender in his prime. He was a phenomenal goaltender for the Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks, but came to the Oilers during a time of struggle and a rebuilding team. From the 2009-10 season to the 2012-13 season Khabibulin did what he could to help the Oilers win hockey games. Ultimately, the Oilers would need more than one good goalie to ice a playoff-bound hockey team. CURTIS JOSEPH GP: 177, GAA: 2.90, SV%: .902, W-L: 76-76, SO: 14 Curtis Joseph [https://thehockeynews.com/.image/c_fit,h_600,w_600/MjAwODYzMzEzNDczNTc4MTg4/usatsi_3423071_168401874_lowres.jpg] Curtis Joseph The goaltender affectionately referred to as "Cujo" was one of the best to ever play for the Oilers - Curtis Joseph. My earliest hockey memories involve watching him make incredible saves for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Oddly enough, that was the team he played for immediately after his tenure with the Oilers. Although he only played three seasons with the Oilers for two of them he played 72 and 71 games. Goaltenders in today's NHL never play 70+ games in a season anymore.
