Scoring 40 goals in a season is a big deal. It's unfortunate for the Edmonton Oilers and Leon Draisaitl that the night their leading scorer pulls it off is the night when one too many giveaways found their way into their net.

Draisaitl scored two goals in Friday night's loss to the Colorado Avalanche. He has scored at least 40 goals for six of the past seven years.

Following the game, Corey Perry, who scored two goals against the Avalanche, spoke about how impressive Draisaitl has been scoring goals this season.

"He continues to find ways (to score)," Perry reveals. "He's one of the best in the world for a reason and he shows it each and every night."

Draisaitl also spoke to the media after the loss. His expression and body language indicated he wasn't happy with Friday night's team performance. However, he believes they could have played better in the last few games.

"I didn't love our game the last couple nights," Draisaitl said. "Maybe it's a little bit of fatigue kicking in or mentally we weren't as sharp as we needed to be."

It's clear that the Oilers want to win, but they also want to win by playing the right way. Perry discussed the focus of Connor McDavid and Draisaitl.

"They want to win," Perry stated. "They're more upset about the result tonight than individual achievements."

"(I've) been here a year now and you can see the passion they have for the game. Individual awards for them are nice but they are chasing that big one."

The Oilers can rest, recover, and regroup by taking the next two weeks off. They can then come back and play better hockey as a team.

"Over the course of a season, you are going to have those ups and downs."

We will see how long this "down" will last before things go up.
